Classmate studio portrait

Liz Pierson

Without hesitation, junior Liz Pierson describes herself as being “loud, obnoxious and sarcastic.” Her parents wouldn’t allow her only to be a photojournalism major, so she is an individual design major, with a combination of photojournalism, strategic communications and writing with Spanish and art minors. "I used to think I was really funny," Pierson said. "I've always thought that. I guess it took me 20 years to realize I'm not. Not even a little. So I always laugh at my own jokes for sympathy points." As part of her job through the business school, she will take her outgoing personality to India for free to take photos of other students on their study abroad trips this winter break.

I had the opportunity to photograph Liz Pierson for my first shoot in the studio. I had a lot of fun working with Liz and she was a great model.

Inspirational Portrait

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/multimedia/photo_gallery/0712/price.obama/content.1.html

A series of photos by Bill Frakes from Sports Illustrated circulated during Obama's campaign for president. It is no secret that Obama loves to play basketball and I felt these environmental portraits revealed a side of Obama that had not been seen during the campaign. This one particularly stands out to me. He seems like an approachable everyday person that I could run into at my own local YMCA. This was an unusual portrait for someone trying to be elected as president of the United States. The red, white and blue basketball ball adds to the photo and is kind of a subtle reminder of his patriotism.
