Audio Slideshow

I chose a video from The New York Time's "One in 8 Million" project. To me, the most interesting part was the story about being robbed. I just wanted to him to all the sudden talk faster to hear what happened. The intro, leading into this story, felt kind of long. He said a lot of interesting things that added detail to the story, but I kept thinking there has to be more to this story. The detail shots were relevant and advanced the story. The subject himself has a sense of humor and personality that the photographer did a great job of demonstrating.

Painting with light

For decades, horror movies have made a name for themselves by frightening audiences with ghosts, aliens, dead little girls and supernatural beings emerging from household television sets. This may not be so far from reality as scientists are currently developing televisions with the capability for 3D display. The first commercially available no-glasses model is predicted for release in Japan in November 2011.

Fill and balance

Watching cars pass by on College Ave. Oct. 22, at John Sproules’ (left) own tailgate while he enjoys some freshly made scrambled eggs. Him and his wife, Kathy Sproules (to the right of him) tailgate at this spot every game day. This week, they brought heaters for inside the tent and their family friends they hadn’t seen in 20 years. The goal was to convince their friend’s daughter to be a freshman at Mizzou next year.

Don inspired his son to start bowling at the age of 6 because he has been bowling his entire life. Due to an ankle injury three years ago, Don taught himself how to bowl left handed after 42 years of bowling right-handed.

Classmate studio portrait

Liz Pierson

Without hesitation, junior Liz Pierson describes herself as being “loud, obnoxious and sarcastic.” Her parents wouldn’t allow her only to be a photojournalism major, so she is an individual design major, with a combination of photojournalism, strategic communications and writing with Spanish and art minors. "I used to think I was really funny," Pierson said. "I've always thought that. I guess it took me 20 years to realize I'm not. Not even a little. So I always laugh at my own jokes for sympathy points." As part of her job through the business school, she will take her outgoing personality to India for free to take photos of other students on their study abroad trips this winter break.

I had the opportunity to photograph Liz Pierson for my first shoot in the studio. I had a lot of fun working with Liz and she was a great model.

Inspirational Portrait

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/multimedia/photo_gallery/0712/price.obama/content.1.html

A series of photos by Bill Frakes from Sports Illustrated circulated during Obama's campaign for president. It is no secret that Obama loves to play basketball and I felt these environmental portraits revealed a side of Obama that had not been seen during the campaign. This one particularly stands out to me. He seems like an approachable everyday person that I could run into at my own local YMCA. This was an unusual portrait for someone trying to be elected as president of the United States. The red, white and blue basketball ball adds to the photo and is kind of a subtle reminder of his patriotism.

Sedalia, Mo. tornado touchdown May 25, 2011

Never thought when I woke up this past Wednesday that I would be spending my afternoon searching for people whose homes have been destroyed by a tornado hours earlier. Here is my take on the day and you can link to my story.
Although I didn't have my camera on me, I was handed a breaking news camera on my way out the door. Here are some of the photos I was able to get with this camera.

Here are the links to the stories:

Is it summer yet?

I was doing some editing of camp photos and came across a few that I like. Still hard to believe I won't be returning to the finest place I know for the first time in nine years.
